It’s been a while since all next-gen consoles debuted on the world market. Hordes of games was already released; some of them ended up being really solid and entertaining while some other were frustating. Based on Metacritic website ratings database I could draw some hints about how good the games are on each plataform.
Playstation 3 seems to be the console that’s more aware of software quality: 44% of the games were rated good, 50% were average and only 6% were considered bad games. XBOX 360 is almost on pair with the PS3: 41% of good games, 50% of average games and only 9% of bad ones. Nintendo Wii, however, has a different picture: only 18% of its games were considered good, while 63% were average and 19% were rated bad.
Although the PS3 has a better percentage of good games compared to XBOX 360, the Microsoft console has more games available, clearly due to its erlier release. It’s not yet evident which one will have the “best games”. On the other hand, Nintendo Wii really urges for better games; the percentage of bad games surpasses the good ones. It’s a frightening situation. Luckly or surprisingly, it’s the most popular console among the consumers, at least so far.
Personally, when I buy a game, I don’t rely that much on the reviews. Of course it influences my decision, but it’s not the main criterion. Besides that, I’m not a kid anymore, I know how the videogame market runs nowadays and there’s no naiveté within it. Everyone likes some extra money.
